Multiples

when did you switch to a convertible carseat?

I have stopped using the DSNG because the baby that has the other seat in front of them gets their legs squashed and they look squashed in their carseats now as well. My carseats are for up to 22pds. The babies are only around 17-18pds.

Did you/can you switch to a convertible carseat now?
Thanks!

  • Of course you can swtich to a convertible now if your babies meet the requirements.

We haven't simply because our infants carriers were $250 each and we're using them until the bitter end!!

  • I know it's ridiculous.  They're Peg Perego.  I would still buy them in a heartbeat.

They're just getting realllllly heavy now.  :)  Good for my biceps and abs.

This is our problem. I didn't think my 5 almost 6 month olds would grow out of them by now. Ugh. Ryan is too long for his seat so we're forced to go buy convertibles.

I kept my DDs in their infant seats until they hit the height limit (which they did before the weight limit, even though I think we had a 22lbs limit too).  This was about a year for one DD and 15 months for my other DD.  However, DDs go to daycare and it was sooooo much easier carrying two infant seats in, regardless of how heavy they were, vs. trying to carry two squirming kiddos in.

  • My girls are about 18lbs each as well but we are still using the infant seats and I will use them until they are 22lbs each!  Its just so much easier keeping them in the seats, esp since its still cold out and I have an older one to deal with.
  • I was going to wait until the last minute, but then the big trade-in happened at BBRU and add the multiples discount on that I couldn't pass that up! I think most seats start at 5lb so you can really use them from the beginning if you wanted to.

We have the peg perego too and I plan on using them as long as possible! Def have to get the money's worth out of them! They are so heavy I can barely lift them anymore but I love them, def a good workout!

  • We haven't switched them yet and hope to hold out until they're a year old. We have the Snugride 32s. They've gotten so heavy that we just leave the seats in the car now. If the weather here in MI doesn't get warmer soon we'll probably have to switch them earlier, since DSs straps are the loosest we can get them and his winter coat is very bulky (not to mention he's a little bit of a chunk).

  • i switched Gibby at 4mo, he was 18lbs and i couldn't stand carrying his seat... I kept Gray in until 12mo when he was 22lbs, b/c it was so much easier to have at least one child in the infant seat.

Griffin was switched at 5mo around 19lbs.

  • I'm glad I'm not the only "bitter end" person!  They're almost 9 months, and so long as they're still under the height limit, we'll stay in them.  It a haul, but it's so much easier to carry them both into daycare and leave the seat there.  Plus, I'm not quite comfortable leaving one sitting in the car alone unless it's in our garage.

  • I think they were around 9-10 months when we switched.

I'm waiting until it gets warm here. It's so convenient leaving them in the seats w/ those car seat covers. Plus we go to restaurants a lot and I haven't worked up to portable high chairs yet.
  • We waited until they were 13m.
  • Mine are still in their infant seats. I will be keeping them in them until they either hit the height or weight limits. We have the snugride 32s, so I think they will be fine in them for a few more months. We just leave the seats in the car.

Just FYI, they're not supposed to have anything heavier than a light fleece jacket on in the carseat.  It can cause the straps not to tighten properly and be too loose in an accident.  I live in MI too and we just put fleece jackets on them then throw a blanket over them to run them in and out.

  • It's breaking my heart (and my wallet) that we will be switching them out soon.  I love our Peg Peregos, but they are so heavy right now.   I believe our boys are  20lbs, I will find out for sure Friday.  Also, G is just so broad, he acts like he is so uncomfortable in it.  Plus, we're no longer using the infant seats on our BJSC, the boys are in the real seats now.

We are probably ordering our Britax seats tonight or tomorrow.  So as soon as they get here, we will switch them.
