xp:BFing/Food allergy question

Hi all-

I'm also posting this on the BFing board and SAHM boards. I have a question (and I called LLL but got a voice mail box, I left a message but am not expecting a return call anytime soon).  I am still nursing my 15 mo DD, and tonight we had gnocci and pesto for dinner.  I've had pesto a few times since she was born (no reaction) and I'm fairly certain she's had it before with no reaction as well.  However, this evening, she showed signs of a mild reaction to it (red skin on the face where the sauce touched).  It went down quickly after we took the food away, which is fine; however, since I ate it as well, am I okay to nurse her tonight?  Any insight on this would be hugely appreciated--TIA!!!

Re: xp:BFing/Food allergy question

  • Sounds like not a true allergy. My DD gets a little red with tomato sauce. Her pediatric allergist said its very common, no biggie. Also she has an egg allergy however I do not avoid eggs. He said we were fine at this point.

  • Thanks! I'm driving myself nuts with this one!
  • My DD is allergic to milk and I never avoided it in my diet. She is also allergic to eggs (severe allergy) so I do avoid that just to be safe, but she has never reacted to my diet. I'm sure you are fine.

  • DS breaks out from dairy but has never been affected by it in my diet.

  • My guess is that something in the food irritated her sensitive cheeks, but that it's likely not an actual allergy. I would go ahead and BF, but just be on the look out for any other sign of a reaction.
