I read happiest baby on the block before dd was born and for, the most part, it worked pretty well for us. Just ordered happiest toddler off half.com...so excited! Has anyone read this yet? What did you think?
I liked Happiest Baby on the Block and thought it provided helpful advice. I thought Happiest Toddler wasn't all that and only really provided limited advice. Luckily, DS is pretty good still but I was trying to be preemptive and read it (since I had it already) - perhaps if I really had to use it Id have a different opinion.
I read it and I thought it was okay - I enjoyed the descriptions at the beginning of the different stages that toddlers go through in their development.
The advice on trying to help your toddler adjust through tantrums I've felt like I could pass along in a nutshell to others so they don't need to buy the book: reflect the feelings of your child and then use short simple phrases to get your message across.
It has worked a little on our young toddler, but we're still pre-terrible-twos, which I now understand start at 18 months!
I liked the beginning of the book but stopped reading after that as I had just finished reading Unconditional Parenting and the information contradicted that book, which unlike HTOTB is a research based book. It is a good read though and it really did help us!

Dr. Karp came and gave a talk at one of our local schools. University of Virginia set it up and it was cool. BTW, he actually interacted with my DD and she totally didn't go for his antics (she's so social but not for him LOL). In his talk he said over and over that the book is okay but you should watch the DVD several times. Well, I got the DVD from the library and wasn't impressed. I think his point is valid and will work but I think the DVD could use more examples. I might get the book from the library afterall :-)
