I need a sippy cup tutorial

How did you introduce a sippy cup?

This seems self explanitory, yet I'm not certain how to do it. W is offered sippy cups with a little water to experiment with. They usually end up being used as a banging tool. He played around for about a week with putting the cup to his mouth, but no more. If I try to assist him taking the spout to his mouth, he gets stiff and pushes away. I have tommee tippee's and have tried with and without the spill proof valve. I also have a dr brown's but it's a bit big. Today I tried offering formula in the sippy cup and this just seemed to set him off to be in a bad mood until I bf him (he's 1/3 ff so it's not unfamiliar to him). Any tips?

  • Have you tried straw sippy cups? We started w/ those around 5 months w/ both kids and they picked it up pretty quickly.

  • We actually started with a cup without the top so he could get used to the concept of tipping it to drink.  Its counterintuitive, but more water is better - less tipping needed.  Then we moved to a full sippy... Same rational.

  • Isaac still can't figure out a straw... I'd like a tutorial on that!

I agree!! DD can't either. (And she's much older than your little guy.)

  • And mine took forever to figure out how to tip the other kind of cups. Go figure! :)
