2nd Trimester

Former proactiv users?

What did you switch to when you got pregnant?  I tried an aveeno face wash and it worked for a couple weeks, but now my skin is breaking out like crazy again.  I'm trying to steer clear of benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid.

Any recommendations?

Re: Former proactiv users?

  • I stopped use right when I found out, but after lots of research and a long discussion with my doctor, I'm still using ProActive. That said, I only use the face wash, and I use less and rinse it off quicker.

I've always had acne, the only thing that ever really worked was accutane (years ago obviously). When TTC, I tried all sorts of over the counter basic washes/routines with no success. It does seem like my skin is just generally more sensitive now (ie: being much more careful to keep hands clean, change pillowcases often, etc now)

  • I just wanted to say that I've done a lot of research online and the amount of salicylic acid is most acne washes is not harmful. It is generally only harmful if ingested.

  • I stopped using it when preg w/ DS, but only b/c it wasn't working and it was staining everything. When I told the Proactiv people why I was stopping due to being preg, they didn't bug me about it, as they have in the past.

Anyway, I now use Purpose. It works so much better than Proactiv for me and it is gentle on the skin.

  • I still use it. It doesn't seem to work as well as it did before I got pg. That being said, it still works better than anything else I've tried. My Dr says its safe.

  • I still use it.  I've done some online research and everything I've read seems to say it's fine.  I don't think there's salicylic acid in it anyways, just benzoyl peroxide.  It's the only thing that works for me, and of course I would rather have acne than harm the baby, but I feel really good about it being safe after reading about it.  Of course, it's a personal choice.
  • My skin went CRAZY when I got pregnant and NOTHING was working...it was awful...I tried this soap...and it cleared everything up in 2 days...I havent gotten a single blemish since and it is COMPLETELY NATURAL!  it is quite a strong smell of lavendar and rosewood...but the effects are worth it and it is kind of soothing now...ALSO it doesn't dry me out and I have very dry

  • I switched to an all natural cleanser but i have been lucky and my skin has cleared up with the pregnancy.  I had switched when we started trying so I know it worked only as well as the proactive.  Good luck!

  • Thanks ladies!  I was up in the air about wanting to go back to it.  They called trying to get me to sign up again and as soon as I said I was pregnant, they congratulated me and said they would call back in 9 months.  I was surprised by how easy they dropped the subject, so it kind of convinced me to stay away.  I know the amounts are minimal but I want to at least try one more wash before going back to it.  It might just be the hormones and nothing can help!

Give Purpose a try. I know a lot of derms who recommend it (and cetaphyl) and it is pretty cheap ($4 or $5 bucks). It's probably been the best stuff I have ever used and it's great at removing makeup.
