If your LO has a lovey...

how much love is the lovey getting????

Ellie (Addie's little elephant) is like a part of our family...lol.  I try to stay consistent about not taking Ellie anywhere, except the sitter's.  It's kind of hard to get her to put Ellie down sometimes for bath time or meal time or leaving the house.  I let her take her to Costco yesterday because she wasn't feeling well.  I think it's really cute how much she loves her, but.......

What are your thoughts about your DC's lovey?

Re: If your LO has a lovey...

  • I wish my DD loved her lovey more.  She's torn between a plush Cabbage Patch Kid (with a hard face), and a Build-A-Bear that I made for her.  They're both in her crib.

I guess I can consider the CPK victorious, because when she wakes up, she throws it out of her crib (along with her soucie and blankets)... kind of like the Great Escape.  But she doesn't hug of kiss any toys.  She smashes.  Dh calls her the Hulk and always says in a Hulk-y voice "Hera SMASH!".  lol :)  She's not a very dainty girl at all.  DD1 was the same way.  She always played heroes with her Barbies, not fashion.

  • G has a "babies" that he likes to carry around and hug or hand to other people for hugs but it pretty much stops there. He doesn't take them out of the house and loses interest in them fairly quickly. I'm happy that he hasn't become too attached to any one thing.

  • DS got very attached to a stuffed monkey we gave him for his birthday. He wanted to take it everywhere and I didn't have a problem with that. In fact, I guess I encouraged it. Then a couple of months ago he sort of lost interest. Now he wants to have a dinky car in each hand whenever we go out. I'm kind of sad about it. Monkey was certainly easier to keep track of!

He does still want Monkey sometimes when he's upset or really tired.

  • DD has a bunny, monkey and "woof woof" that she sleeps with every night. The bunny is #1 to her though. We don't let her take it out of the house unless she is staying the night somewhere else. Sometimes she has a fit, but she usually gets over it the minute we are out the door.

  • DD has 2.... one small and one big blanket with silk on one side and soft material on the other. We call them "silky" and "Big silky". Big silky stays in her crib and little silky comes with us in the diaper bag and she gets it when she's tired. She wraps it around her head when she gets really tired..... its pretty funny!

ETA: She is VERY attached to these blankets and would drag them with her everywhere she went if I let her(I dont want them to get dirty)

  • DD has a lovey that she LOVES lol.  I only give it to her before bed and before nap time.  It's adorable the way her face lights up when I pull the lovey out of the crib.  She clutches it while she falls asleep.

As far as her toys go, her favorite is her Barney doll, followed by a CPK soft doll with hard face.  She likes the put them up on her shoulder, pat their back and then hug them!

  • LO didn't have a lovey...until 2 weeks ago when he started dc.  I thought it would be nice to take a familiar toy to dc, now he's attached...a small plush cookie monster.

  • Callie is a blankie-baby all the way. She has a jersey cotton blanket from Carter's that has adorable pandas, hearts and rainbows all over it. She also loves her muslin swaddling blankets(we have four aden + anais ones that we switch out regularly). She really loves the silky tag on her panda blanket. She searches for the tag when she gets tired and rubs it against the holes in her pacifer=) She'll even offer it to me if she's feeling magnanimous. She's not super-attached to them throughout the day but don't even THINK about getting her out of her crib without her blankets after a nap. She clutches on for dear life!

  • I wish Ellie had a lovey.  I feel like I am her lovey.  When she nurses she plays with/pulls my hair.

    I am my daughter's lovey.

  • DD has a little stuffed monkey that she would take everywhere with her if I let her! I make sure it stays home though because when I was a child I had a bear that I needed to sleep but always was leaving it places, making my parents search and search at bed time.
  • DS's lovey stays in his crib most of the time.  DH doesn't like him carrying it around all the time and I don't want it getting wrecked or lost.  DS is used to it so it's not a big deal.

  • Oh God. We have a lovey addicted child. We have 4 in the house - 2 dogs and 2 giraffes - and around the house he can take any or all anywhere he wants except in the bath. We used to sneak it upstairs at bathtime in our shirt or pants and stick it in the crib when DS wasn't looking, but over the last 2 months or so we have begun to have him leave it in his room. Most of the time he does, every now and then we have to physically separate the kid and the lovey and he cries, but usually only for a minute or two. We just tell him lovey will be waiting for him. We do let him bring it out with us, but we generally try to confiscate it before going into Little Gym or music classes or the like. Until DS had been sick it was only allowed in the car and house, now they go everywhere (although only one at a time may leave the house), and I have an extra set so I can clean them regularly. I read LOs will drop their loveys on their own between 2 and 5, so we will reestablish no loveys outside of the car and house soon, and then just leave the issue alone.

M has the same.  We leave the big one at home and bring the little one in the car/diaper bag.

I took this pic, just today (please excuse the little red blotch on his head, he had just woken up from a nap and had been up against the crib rail):

    we have very similar blankets:

They suck their thumbs only if they have their blankets.  i try to make a nap/night thing only, but they go get them from their cribs...and if i hide them, they get very upset.

but they dont leave the house. i actually have seperate lovies for the car, although they dont them as much.

if DD cannot find her blanket, my pink fuzzie bathrobe is her substitute.

  • Eva has a monkey that is attached to a little satin blankey.  She LOVES that thing!  I've tried really hard to tell her that "monkey stays in the crib" but she'll go get it out of the crib if we're near her room.  I only let her take it out of the house if she's spending the night at someone else's house... we do not take it to daycare.

  • DD has a few that she likes but not a clear cut favorite yet.  She goes through spurts of liking certain ones more than others.  They are all some type of baby...glowworm, teddy bear, princess doll/little blanket, little bear/blanket.  The cutest part is she pats their backs now.  I think she sees the teachers at daycare doing this with the infants.
