Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

anyone have a 12 month old...

that does not respond to his name? Please dont tell me what this is a "red flag" for... Just wondering if anyone else is struggling with this.

Re: anyone have a 12 month old...

  • I honestly can't remember if DD responded to her name by 12 months but I just wanted to reassure you that if this is the only "red flag" issue you're seeing, it most likely isn't anything to be concerned about at all. Do you use your LOs name? We were watching home videos and realized that we never really called DD by her actual name when she was an infant. We used a lot of nicknames.

  • DS is nearly 14 months and just really starting to respond specifically to his name. I'd say in the last month was when it clicked.
  • Thanks ladies. My head is spinning and im freaking out about this after googling it :(

Yes! We did this too. We either called him a nickname or never actually referred to him by name.

  • I remember freaking out about this as well for a couple of weeks. We use a nickname a lot so we just stopped and made sure he saw us when we talked to him and spoke his name. I think it is a phase they go through as well. I would not worry. We are at 14 months and honestly I cannot even remmeber this little phase:)
  • I think DD didn't respond to her name until 15 months or so
