I took a medical leave of absence from work to take care of my son when we received his cancer diagnosis. The doctor certified my medical leave for the remainder of the school year. I received a notice today to return to work next week or resign. I am just in shock. I don't know what to do. Going back to work right now isn't an option, but can they really force me to resign while I am on medical leave?I emailed the person who was supposed to be in charge of my leave to see why I got this notice. I also emailed my principal who had no idea I was supposed to be back at work either.I am just so in shock over this, I feel sick.
Re: Need advice/ encouraging words
I am so sorry that you are dealing with this when your mind is needed in so many other places. Big hugs to you
As far as I understand it you are allowed to take 12 weeks fmla and they have to save you a position at your job. However, they do not have to save your same exact job if it is one that can not be vacant for that long of a time. I don't know what your exact situation is but I would have the principle get more involved and if they are not that supportive I would consider leaving. I know your priorities will not be with work right now.
