TTC After a Loss

Can someone explain charting BBTs to me?

I've never done it before but want to start. Thing is, I don't know how to interpret the temps? When do they rise, when do they dip, what does it mean?!?!? I'm so confused. Help!

Re: Can someone explain charting BBTs to me?

  • Fertility friend has really good tutorials and TCOYF is a great book to read.  Simply put, your temps will be lower prior to O.  Sometimes people see a temp dip the day before O, although many will not.  After O, you *should* see sustained high temps until you start your next AF, or that will continue if you are pg.  My temps are normally around 97.5 prior to O, and then over 98 after O.

  • Thank you so much! I've been using opks, but they hate me so I'm going a new route. Can't hurt right!
  • I highly recommend TCOYF as well.  It is a great book.
  • TCOYF = Taking Charge of Your Fertility if you didn't know.  It is benefial to also chart your cervical fluid to you know when you are about to O, temping will just confirm when O has already happened.

I have learned SO much after reading that book, it is so great!

  • No problem!  The bad thing about charting your temps, is that it doesn't predict O, so it is good to use CM, cervical position and opk's as additional indications that you are close to ovulation.  But, the great thing about charting temps, is that you can usually confirm O if you have a good temperature shift.  I have always been able to confirm mine.  Best of luck, I really love charting.  I feel much more in tune with my body, and it was really easy to get into.
  • Oh god, now I gotta learn to figure out this CM stuff too? Does it never end?!?!?!? LOL. I don't even want to begin to know how to do that stuff. My next life I'm coming back as a goat--they always seem to be pregnant and I've never seen one of them POAS. Thanks ladies, I hate that this board has to exist but I'm glad it does because you chicas are the best!

Charting CM is as easy as looking in your underwear when you go to the bathroom, you don't have to do any more with it unless you want to.  Checking cervical position is definatly optional, I do it because I am desperate, but you definately don't have to!
