Babies: 3 - 6 Months

If LO is rolling over anyway during sleep, ok to put him down on his tummy to start?

LO rolls in the night and always ends up on his tummy.

Is it ok to put him down like this to begin with?

He is 4.5 months and has great head and neck control.

If I put him down on tummy, he goes right to sleep and stays alseep. if I put him down on his back, it startles him and he wakes and fights sleep for awhile.

Thoughts?

TIA!

  • If his neck control is good, I don't see the issue. I would put C down on her belly, however she won't fall asleep that way.

  • This is the only way DS sleeps and we put him in the crib on his belly. He gets comfortable immediatly and falls into a deeper sleep right away rather than fighting sleep. So I really don't see why you can't put your LO to sleep on his belly right from the start.

  • We've been Caleb down on his belly to sleep since he started rolling over in the middle of the night at 4 months. He would roll over and wake up screaming because it startled him. He was napping on his tummy for awhile prior to that.
  • I do.  DS was always a side sleeper, then recently started rolling over onto his belly, but because of the extra padding in his overnight diaper, it wakes him up when he goes to flip over, so I just lay him on his belly now.  Nights still mostly suck, but they've gotten a little better.
