Progesterone indicitive of how many eggs released?

Asking a question for a friend - she's at the beginning of her TTC (trying almost a year) and is doing timed intercourse and Clomid, plus a trigger shot.  Anyway, I asked her if the doctor (an OB/GYN) will do an u/s next week to see how many eggs she released, and she said that they're just doing a progesterone test.  The doctor told her that they could determine the number of eggs released by the progesterone number. 

Does anyone know - is that true? 

I don't remember ever learning this during my 22 months TTC (including over a year with the RE).  Thanks ladies.

I have never heard of this... it seems odd to me - i mean, if progesterone always correlated with # of eggs- then they could just do one or the other- and most REs do both an US and a progesterone test a few days after insemination.

Not just that- but by not doing an US they risk her hyperstimulating and getting pg with HOM - not safe.  This is why i can't stand when OBs give out clomid!!!

The corpus luteum produces the progesterone, so the more follicles you have, the more corpus luteums are left over and the more progresterone you should have. Which is true for IUI and not IVF since they remove the whole follicles so nothing is left over after ovulation.

But I agree, the doc should be monitoring with ultrasound before IUI to see how many eggs there are!!!

Hmmm maybe she meant an E2 but that is normally only given with injectables... She should definitely be monitored better while on clomid!
