If you made your own "first words" book

Would you mind sharing the details? How and what did you use? What did you include? How did you organize? How many images per page and how big are the images (what size page is probably related)? Did you include the words now or leave space to add words/letters later?

I bought a first words book but of one object it has three completely different images such as beach ball, soccer ball and basket ball and just labels all of them as ball. They are at least on different pages but confusing I think when learning the word for the first time. As I flipped through others I am equally unhappy with them. So I want to make my own book with familiar objects then I will later incorporate an unfamiliar picture(for example: start with a picture of the ball LO plays with every day then later add a picture of a different type of ball like a beach ball or basketball). I have lots of ideas but just not sure how to put it all together just yet...

TIA

Re: If you made your own "first words" book

  • I made one for LO's first birthday.  I used pictures...LO is in each picture with the object/person.  I just did one picture and word per page. I used....Mama, Dada, Ellie (her lovey), ball, dolly, milk, yummy, bath, book, night-night.  She LOVES this book.  We just read it tonight!  She points to the object in the picture and can almost say every word.  When I made the book she was only saying mama and dada but I know she understood every other word.  The whole thing in on 8x8 scrap book paper and laminated.
