Waking DC from Naps

When do you decide it is time to wake up your DC from a nap? Or is this totally against your rules. DD took at nap this morning from 9:30 to 11. Now shes been sleeping since 4pm. Maybe shes not feeling well. She did refuse her lunch. Only had a bottle. But I dont want her up all night.

Tell me your rules!

Re: Waking DC from Naps

  • I wake up by 6 and bedtime is at 8:30. LO only naps that late when she is completely exhausted but she's usually had enough sleep to stay reasonably pleasant until bedtime.

Once or twice she has been so deeply asleep she didn't even stir as I tried to wake her. Those times I let her sleep through the night which she did do, waking only for a middle of the night bottle to replace the dinner she missed.

  • In the morning I do not let DS sleep past noon. In the afternoon I do not let him sleep past 5. Usually if I stick to those times it doesn't effect his bedtime by more than a half hour or so. Sometimes they just need a little more sleep.

  • I never wake Noah up from a nap unless we have to be somewhere important (but that never happens, lol).

  • DD goes down for her nap at 1:00 and the latest I'll let her sleep is 3:30 (which rarely happens if she naps at 1:00)  Any later than 3:30 and the evening is f-ed up.

  • In general, I don't wake DS from naps or in the morning. It really is true, sleep begets sleep. If he happens to nap and wake up later than usual, closer to dinner/bedtime, we just make sure we get a lot of plan in to tire him out. Then about 15 minutes before we start bedtime, we'll have him watch his Pajanimal "lullaby" video and he calms/settles right down.

  • DS naps 1 to 3 but if he isn't up by 4 then i wake him.  Also if we have plans and have to leave the house around 3 I will wake him.   Not a big deal!

  • DS has always been a horrible napper, so unless the house is burning down, I'm not waking him up.  I'm too busy doing a happy dance that I've got 20 minutes of peace and quiet.

  • Generally for morning or mid day-ish naps, I don't wake her, but for afternoon/evening naps my cut off is "no sleeping after 6pm".

  • Pierce usually naps from 10am to 1pm, but sometimes if he wakes up early he'll be tired in the afternoon as well. I would never wake him up from his morning nap unless we need to go somewhere & I think he's been sleeping long enough. (Today he started his nap at 10:30 & we had to leave by 1:30 so I woke him around 1:15-ish.) My only rule about waking him up is that if he goes down for a nap after 3pm I only let him sleep for an hour & then I get him up. He goes to bed between 7 & 8 at night so I don't want a late nap to interfere with his bedtime.

  • If he's not up from his nap at least 3 hours before bedtime he'll have trouble going down. I usually just let him sleep though and put him to bed later.
  • I say I would never wake DS but I don't have that problem because I'm lucky if DS naps for 1-1.5hr (one nap a day at most). If he happened to nap till late I'd probably wake him up around 5 or 5:30, because otherwise he would never go down for the night.
