We just moved to the area and we did not have either of these stores where we lived before. I have been to both stores but only for small amounts of stuff...trying to decide which one to use most often. Which do you like better and why? Or do you shop at both for different things? Both stores are less than 5mi from my house so that is not an issue. TIA
Re: Wegmans vs. Giant?
Whole Foods!
But if I had to choose between only Wegmans or Giant... Both. We go to Wegmans for certain things (ice cream, simply grapefruit juice, junk food). They have some amazing prices on certain items.
If I need to run out for something quick, I usually go to Giant, We live within 5 miles of almost every major chain (except WF), and Giant would be my choice for a quick stop.
I love Wegmans for its atmosphere but I usually only go there once a month and stock up on meats/fish. I think their prices on these items are great, the quality is noticably better and a lot of them are packed in containers that minimize freezer burn when freezing. The downside to Wegmans is that they almost never have any items "on sale" other than their store brands which makes using coupons to get good deals near impossible.
I usally rotate between Giant and Shoprite for pantry items depending on who has the better deals that week. I get produce, milk and eggs at Tanner's, a local famer's market type place.
Giant, definitely. I cannot stand grocery shopping at Wegman's. I live near the Collegeville one. I just do not like the way it is set up. It has normal aisles like any store and then there is this one aisle that intersects all the aisles. It's a mess and causes some jams. Plus, they don't have a lot of the Wegman brand stuff. I like to shop generic! I don't even attempt to go on weekends b/c it is always so packed and other customers treat it as happy hour (standing in the aisles chatting it up).
We do enjoy going there for dinner-to-go or a snack (awesome cupcakes). My H likes to get his beer there. I am just more comfortable with Giant.
Go Phils!!
