Glider with Ottoman vs. Reclining Glider

Help this 1st time mom decide between these 2 options. Either one will be the fully upholstered type.

Glider with Ottoman: When testing in the store, I liked being able to have my feet up a glide at the same time. It felt more comfortable and relaxing being able to have my feet up.

Reclining Glider: Can't have feet up and glide at same time. But, I'm hearing/reading that it would be great for times when (if) I fall asleep in the nursery. Also might be more apt to use for future in living room.

Does reclining help with breastfeeding at all? Or is better/easier to be sitting straight up when nursing?

  • Just fyi, our glider (with a gliding ottoman) also reclines.  I have never reclined but DH sues has and loves it!  We have the Shermag in biscuit from BRU and it is insanely comfy - we still use it every night for stories and bedtime rocking.

Is it the type with exposed wood? I've seen the recline/lock feature on some of the gliders with the wood base.

I've never seen this feature on the fully upholstered gliders with ottoman though.

  • Early on when breastfeeding, I've found the more I am sitting up the easier it is.  But as with almost anything breast feeding related, you can relax about that as the baby gets bigger and you get used to it.

PERSONALLY, I think I'd rather have the ottoman.  But reclining can be good too.

But you'll be amazed at the positions and places you find sleep during the early days/weeks of sleep deprivation.  Smile

  • I had a c/s and it hurt to sit all the way up at first.  Our glider doesn't recline so I didn't use it at all the first few weeks, though I would have loved to.  For that reason alone I recommend the reclining feature
  • I'm confused. I thought you could be reclined in a glider'recliner and still keep gliding. Is that not the case?

I'm not talking about the onces with exposed wood - we want the all-upholstered variety...

  • We have one of the Best recliner/gliders.  I never missed the footstool.  Our nursery is kinda small we we didn't have room for it anyways.  You'll figure out how to nurse reclined, but at first it may be easier to be more upright.  You can always get a small footstool if you feel you need it.  We love our chair.  I even slept in it a few nights at the end of my pregnancy when the reflux got really bad.
