Crocs for DS

I think crocs are pretty hideous...for me (sorry if you like them). But I'm looking for summer shoes for DS and saw some crocs that looked kind of cute. Should I just say no, or are they cute on little ones?

Re: Crocs for DS

  • B wore Crocs last summer. They were plain black, so not nearly as awful as some colors, and they fit him well. He got the airflow without the awkward sandal-walking issues that come with the early stages of upward mobility in summer. I'll probably get him some this year too because they worked so well (and are better for slightly cooler days when it's still too hot for socks).

Of course, DH and I both have Crocs too. Mine are cute black Mary Janes that no one ever realizes are Crocs, and DH's are plain and match B's. I have no issues with them, they're effing comfortable (and only look stupid if they're neon and worn with shorts).

  • I feel the same way.  They are awful for adults but I don't have a problem with them on kids.  They are so much easier to get on and off then regular shoes.  I'm going to get DS some for this summer.

A few years ago we let DD#1 pick what color she wanted and of course she went for the school bus yellow color.  They were awful but we let her get them.  Luckily she's outgrown them.

  • I hate them on adults to but penny has a pair of pink ones and they are prety cute and so much easier to put on han any other shoe she has! lol

  • I think they're cute on LOs. DS got a pair for his bday, so he will wear them this summer. I don't really like them for me, but DH has a pair.

  • We got LO a pair and they are great! Easy to get on, easy to clean.  They also helped him start walking! (Or at least he started right when he got them :)

  • I agree...not a fan at all for adults but I think they are cute and practical for LOs.  I'll probably get DS some blue ones.

  • I was at a resale shop a few weeks ago, with DH and he saw a pair of purple mary jane style crocs for dd, he was deadset on getting them, which supriised me since he isn't a fan of them.  But, they are really cute on her. They are purple and the holes are Mickey shaped.

    I say go for it.

  • Ugly for adults and while cute on kids, I caution you that I have seen many kids fall/trip/have big time accidents in Crocs. They are awful for your feet-- I can testify to this as an early intervention PT. They are the one shoe that I tell parents to avoid.

If you need summer shoes for your LO, go with a Teva type shoe.

  • I used to dislike crocs on anyone kids and adults. I broke down and bought my son a pair a couple years ago after he had a let's stomp in the mud party in his tennis shoes. I still have the video. It's so cute. Anyway, don't underestimate the ease of Crocs. I limited them to the back yard for a while. They are easy to rinse the dirt and mud off. I let my son wear them to the pool and to school now. They are easy for little ones to put on by themselves. They are in my summer shoes list now. Every spring my son (both now) get a pair of Keen Newport in navy, Reef flip flops with the molded footbed (not flat rubber) in brown, and a pair of Crocs in green/navy.
