"My son is not a redhead -- it's just cradle cap."

So Connor's hair is a dirty blonde/light brown and he has recently developed a mild case of cradle cap which has manifested itself as orangey scales on the top of his head... now all of a sudden I'm getting these "he's got red hair" comments! haha

As a redhead myself, it would always bother me when people would say that an obvious brunette or blonde had "some red in their hair". Yea the undertones might not be ashy, maybe they're warmer... but give me a break. When you're a redhead, there's NO doubt about the colour of your hair when you're born. My hair was bright orange.

Just had to vent!

  • I think and I would personally take red hair comments as a compliment.  I LOVE read hair, I think it's beautiful, so I would probably say that to you meaning it as a compliment.

  • My son has the exact same thing. He has light brown hair and these gross orange-ish scales from cradle cap that make it look like he's a red head. I keep thinking he's ready to outgrow the cradle cap, but it hasn't happened yet. I try not to do anything to it, because the couple times I've tried, it just looks worse.

  • Yeah, we get this too.  DS has very light brown hair, but with his cradle cap it looks red in his pictures.  I constantly get comments about "Where'd he get the red hair!?!"

I deal with the same thing, its annoying.  Basically everyone in my family has red hair.  So I keep having everyone tell me he looks like he is going to be a red head too.  And he also has a little orange cradle cap, so that doesn't help.  But if you are going to have red hair it is BRIGHT red when you are born.

This!  DH has red hair, and I'd really hoped that DD would, too.

DH was born with black hair, by one year it was bright orangey red and stayed that way until about 10 or 11.  Now it is brown.  Redheads aren't always born redheads.

  • I have this argument all the time. I'm a red head so everybody keeps telling me that H's hair will fall out and come back in red. I've been arguing about it since the day she was born. If her hair was gonna be red, it would have been red at birth!
