Trying to Get Pregnant

My house smells like burnt food.. help.

Long story short, DH completely melted some soup to the bottom of a pan.. and my house smells like it was on fire.  How do I get rid of the smell?

Its about 40 degrees outside, so leaving all the windows open for an extended period of time is just not an option.  I febreezed the hell out of everything, and that didnt help. I also lit about 20,000 candles at the risk of starting a REAL fire, and that didnt help.

Re: My house smells like burnt food.. help.

  • If it was me I would just shut the furnace off and open the windows. That really is the first way to erradicate any smells that are in the air. After the air is clear and the odors aren't being deposited back onto any soft surface is when your febreez will start to kick in. You can also leave a very large can of coffee open, or dump it onto a cookie sheet and leave it out for a day or two. This will help to absorb the odors too. Just don't let your animals get into it if you have any. Did this happen this morning or last night?

ETA: I would also wash as many fabric items as you can if the smell still lingers a bit (curtains, blankets, rugs...etc) to help get rid of the smell. And you wouldn't have to leave the windows open for a super long time...just a few hours.

  • Try cooking something that smells good?  It may just take a couple of days. Oh, what about looking up one of those recipes online where you "cook" homemade potpourri on top of the stove.  My mom used to make one with oranges, cinnamon, etc.

Turn off the heat and air out the house - the febreeze and candles are just masking it.

  • I've always heard that charcoil will asorb the ordor. That's what my SIL used when a male cat got in her car and sprayed.
  • I hate that smell! The only way I have found to get rid of it is to open the windows- in the kitchen especially, at least just for a few minutes. I know it is cold though! I can't wait until summer when I can open the windows and just get some fresh air in general, I hate stale house smells. Good luck! :)

  • Boil cinnamon water on the stove, just don't let all the water boil out.

  • Trying boiling some water on the stove with baking soda and lemon peels in it?

If you want to mask the scent, boil orange peels, cloves, and cinnamon.  Makes the house smell amazing!
