Baby Names

Music names?

My husband and I are very into music, especially country. I was thinking it would be awesome if we could come up with a name related to music. My husband plays the guitar as well. Here are a few I thought of...can anyone add to it? Do you think any of these would actually work?

Nash

Gibson

Kix

Chesney

Dierks

Chord

MN is most likely James.

Re: Music names?

  • Think of when he is older..what if he hates country like myself and has a name like that for the rest of his life.
  • Hmm, good point. Maybe if that happens we just won't tell him where we came up with the name ;)

  • my husband plays guitar, we were considering Gibson ourselves. I like Nash and Chord though too, although I think that Gibson or other "real" names age better. Gibson James sounds really good.
  • I don't really care for the names that you have listed.  But I suppose I like Nash the most of the bunch.

Suggestions - Coda, Reed, Keith, Clint, Toby, Bradley (Brad), Timothy (Tim), Philip (Phil), Alan, Cyrus

  • Cash is a name you see now and again on this board. I don't recall if it's short for anything. Maybe a place name like Austin would do also?

  • I think naming your child names like Chesney or Dierks is a pretty bad idea. A musical name is fine, but being so specific (ie. country music) puts your kid in a box IMO. Your hobbies and likes may not be that of your kid. Gibson is fine and Nash is okay, but the rest are not so fantastic. Love James.

  • What about a classical music reference?

Johann, Sebastian, Bach, Amadeus, Josef (some of these aren't great; just wanted to get the ball rolling).

  • I think Gibson James is the best choice from your list.

  • Think about him as a 30 year old doctor.  Kix?  Really?  Your hobbies and very identifable literary/musical tastes are not a good way to name a human being.   Dogs, sure, but not a person.

  • I used to babysit for a family with 5 girls who were named Harmony, Melody, Choral, Aria, and Celeste (an instrument for those who may not know music).  A musical inspired name is fine, but beware of going overboard!

  • I just posted this yesterday somewhere but a rock bands guitarist named his son Gibson! I love the name and will be proposing it to H!
  • Brooks (Garth Brooks), Nelson (Willie Nelson) Hank or William (Hank Williams)
  • NMS. But of your choices, I like the sound of Gibson James.
  • My husband is the band director in the school district we both teach in and one of his students...a fifth grader suggested the name Baritone (Bari for short) for our little guy. He was very serious about this suggestion (he has asperger's), and refers to him as this when talking about the baby. My husband's main instrument is the euphonium (similar to the baritone), so he thinks this is a perfect idea.  I think of your choices I prefer Gibson James...however I am not sure that your son will like to have such an overtly country music name when he is old enough to care.

Kix is kid tested, mother approved. Haha.

  • Thanks for the feedback everyone! I agree that some of those are out there and I would probably never want to call my kids that. We definitely like Nash and Gibson so far. I don't want to end up in a discussion talking about really bad names. And with MN like James if he doesn't like the first name he can use that since its more traditional.

  • I really dont like Nash at all it reminds me of :

    gnash play_w2("G0165400")  (nimagesh)

    tr.v. gnashed, gnash?ing, gnash?es
    1. To grind or strike (the teeth, for example) together.
    2. To bite (something) by grinding the teeth.

I like somone's suggestion of Austin though, Austin James sounds nice to me :-)

Gibson was on my list but DH vetoed it strongly =( What about Brooks? Like Brooks & Dunn the band. I love it but I'm not sure I like it with our last name. Cash after Johnny Cash?
