WHEN WILL MY KID EAT!!!!

Dear Charles,

You cannot survive on oyster crackers, goldfish crackers and canned, cold green beans.  No matter how much you cry and scream and avoid me shoving food into your mouth and spitting it back out.

I am tired of this battle.

Love,

Mommy

Re: WHEN WILL MY KID EAT!!!!

  • Sad

How about fruit? M loves his bananas, blackberries, apples, cantaloupe what have you.

But yeah, he basically gets by on fruit and carbs.

  • Have you tried dips?  Margaux loves dipping.  We'll use anything as  "dip," soups, melted cheese mixtures, yogurt, anything.

    Much sympathy!

  • Poor mommy - it is really rough.  Charles - listen to your mommy and eat.

My oldest was (and still is) a really picky eater!  What does your pedi say about mine?  Mine at the time (this was over 16 year ago) said to let him eat whatever, give him vitamins and cook in an iron skillet (since he refused to eat meat).  I wasn't sure what thoughts were now a days as things tend to change.

  • Yours eats 4 more things than mine. I am about ready to seek out an eating clinic. He will not try any food other than his baby food, sugar cookies, and sweet breads (pumpkin, lemon, zucchini...) and graham crackers. That is it. Nothing else. I feel you.

  • He will tolerate Gerber purees IF he is occupied with toys.  And it has to be a toy that keeps his attention for more than :30.  Today nothing would make him happy.

Dips?  Nope.  Won't even touch things he likes if there's something on it. And I've tried pretty much everything.  Ketchup is like acid!

Fruits?  Sometimes.  Grapes are sometimes agreeable.

Oh.. and he LOVES the dark brown Cheerios in Multigrain Cheerios.  No other colors, tho.  He picks them out.

    ARGH!!!!

  • I know that this is often forbidden but how about distracting him with TV.  My mother said that if she wanted me to eat something I said I did not like she would put me infront of Seseame Street and I would have eaten broken glass because I was so distracted.

Another thing, does he eat around other children?  I think that helps Michael not be so picky because he sees other kids eating things so it must not be poison.  I wish I could be more help.  Michael ate brocoli last night for the first time and liked it.

This, plus yogurt - I've given up. Can't force her to eat (unfortunately)!

  • He's obsessed with the TV, so we really try to limit his exposure.  And we eat our meals together at the dinner table, so we don't have other kids around.

If we're with our buddy, Elena, it doesn't matter, anyway.  He still won't eat.  And she's 2 and has been eating cheeseburgers and spicy guacamole whole since she was 15 months old!

  • I wish I had advice but I feel your pain. My DD exists on peas, cheese and veggie stix (glorified potato chips) and yogurt. She'll eat Stage 2 purees only if she also has a spoon and gets to "help". She won't touch bread. How I dream of being able to just make her a sandwich.

Tried and failed with Sarah. She doesn't eat dips. We also tried fruit (fail) and all the other things mentioned. The only things she'll eat is pasta with tomatoe sauce and pesto tortellini, and lots of milk. I stopped stressing about it.

  • I have a great eater (grace of g*d) but it is completely on her terms. If I ever shoved food into her mouth she would have refused to eat, screamed and spit it out.

You have a child with food issues. It's not your fault.

My darling daughter just turned 4 years old.
  • I hate to say it but this post has made me feel better about R and her only eating, mum mums, puffs, cheerios, yogurt and green beans.  She just started eating string cheese and apples.  Your friend misery here loves your company.
