Pregnant with a 12 month old....

Just took test today so I'm minutes pregnant and fingers crossed that all goes well but....am I limited to doing things with #1 like picking her up, carrying her in the car seat?  How careful do I need to be??!!

Re: Pregnant with a 12 month old....

  • I was never given any lifting restrictions. At the end of my pregnancy I was carrying my 25lb child around a whole lot.

From what I understand, the lifting restriction would be if you weren't used to carrying the weight around. For example, if it were your first pregnancy, and you werent used to lifting 20lbs around on a daily basis, it would be dangerous for you to move that kind of weight. However, your body is used to your child's weight, so it doesnt cause any harm. Mothers handle older children while pregnant all the time.

  • Ditto the PP. I carry my 20 lb DD all the time, dr says it's fine because my body is used to it.

  • Mine was 4.5 months old when I found out I was pregnant.  I carried her around, lifted her, etc., until the very last minute.  I had no other choice.

  • I just asked this.. (about picking up my 25-30 lb DD) and my OB said I don't have to worry about hurting the baby, but rather hurting ME.. and he is right...I threw out my back at Gymboree class last wkend... sitting on gym floor and picking her up on my lap...
