Neighbor update

This afternoon, the saga with the girls across the street continued.  The oldest one jumped out of their vehicle as soon as they pulled in the driveway and then ran across the street to our house.  DD told her that she wasn't playing today and that she had to go home.  The girl ignored DD until her mother yelled her name.  As the oldest girl was crossing back across the street, the younger of the two was running over.  When she came up on our porch, DD repeated the same thing.  The mother yelled for her and the two sisters swapped places again.  (Seriously!)  As the oldest came back the second time, the mother screamed her name several times and the girl completely ignored her.  The mother didn't do anything but yell and then just let her go.  I opened the door and told the girl that she needed to go home.  She looked at me with the blank stare, but left.

DD went to play in the backyard and I started dinner.  I heard the girl's mother yelling for them again, so I looked out the back window.  They were standing at our gate and DD was telling them that they had to go home.  The older one disregarded DD and let herself into the backyard.  I opened the window and said, "You need to go home.  Do not come back."

They ran back across the street (I watched them to make sure they left) and told their mom that DD was mean to her and yelled a lot of other things I couldn't hear.  AMAZINGLY, the mother got up and drew a hopscotch game on the sidewalk for her girls.  (The first time I've ever seen her do anything like that).  The girls did not return...tonight.

  • That's progress!!! Good for you!!
  • YAY!  did you encourage N to say that or was it all on her own (which would be awesome!)?

  • Some people are a piece of work. Good for you for saying something and being firm about it.

  • We talked to DD about why they couldn't come over anymore.  She took it upon herself to tell them they needed to go home.

You need to talk to the mother.  Tell her that they are not, under any circumstances, to come to your house without you issuing HER a direct invitation.  Period.

  • What I find amazing is that the mom did all this without saying anything to you.  My kids do this with the kid next door and the girl down the street, because they want to play, but all of the parents talk and trade off or sit together and watch.  We often feed the others kid lunch or dinner if we are making something.  I can't imagine not even speaking when my kids was in your front yard.
  • We have 3 boys that live right next door to us. They are horrible and so are their parents. It's not nice living with bad neighbours so I sympathise with you.
