Newborn photos

There's a great deal on LivingSocial for a photo package and prints...it's like 80+% off, and would cost less than $20. The place is really close to home and gets decent reviews. It's at the mall. The deal would expire on 6/24. I'm due 6/10. I realize we have no idea how old the baby will be on 6/24 if we went for it and bought this....could be a few weeks, could be a few days. Would you get it? I'm considering it, but my only hesitation is...would I really want to bring my tiny baby to the mall for pictures? Or should I just suck up the cost of getting someone to come to the house?

Re: Newborn photos

  • I think it's a personal decision.  If you are fine going to the mall, I think it's worth the $20.00 risk.  I'm not sure the rules for taking baby out after birth.  So, it wouldn't hurt to check with your pediatrician first.

We are planning on doing pics at home.  I would just feel more comfortable there.  Plus, I know I want to use our photographer--the same one who did our wedding and who is doing our maternity pics.  It's $200, but he's well worth it and I'm pretty financially practical everywhere else.

  • This is one area where I prefer to splurge. We're having maternity and infant photo sessions through a local photographer. He's going to come to our home for the infant pictures about 2 weeks after our daughter is born. I feel more comfortable having the pictures taken in my own home when she's so young.

  • I would do it!  We bought DD1 to the picture people when she was 3 days old, and have the SWEETEST photos of her!  In my favorite one DH is holding her with one hand and her head is in his hand, and her but doesn't even reach his elbow, I can't even remember that she was that tiny.  I did take the last appointment of the day hoping that there wouldn't be many people around, and it worked out well, only one other family was there the whole time.

  • Newborn photos should be taken within the first 2 weeks so it sounds like the timeframe is perfect for you.  I like pp's suggestion of taking the latest (or earliest?) time slot so there won't be as many people there.
