I don't even know what to do.
I had an early ultrasound today as my doctor requests early ultrasounds for all patients that use clomid.
There was a lot of shock as the Ultrasound Tech told us that there were two sacks and two babies and two heartbeats......
But then, there was worry. She told us that the first baby measured great - 112 BPM (good heartbeat for this early). But the second babywass measuring smaller (like a day or two). We were able to see the heartbeat flicker as well, but she wasn't able to read the BPM. She also commented that the sack was smaller than she would have liked to see for a baby of the size/etc.
Unfortunately, there wasn't anything else they could tell us. Only that the other baby could develop just fine and everything will be great, or the baby could end up miscarrying (vanishing twin is what the ultrasound tech said).
We go back next week for a follow up ultrasound. Anyone have experience with this? If so, please share. I am a nervous wreck.
Re: 1st Ultrasound - Two Babies??!!
I don't have that same experience, but I found out about my twins at 8 weeks. Ours are spontaneous and we didn't take Clomid, so they were a total shock to us. At first the doctor thought they were mono/mono identical twins which is really risky. He had a long speech about all the awful things that could happen, and send us for ultrasounds every week for the next 4 weeks. I worried my butt off. Then at 12 weeks, we confirmed they were mono/di identical twins because the tech found a super thin separating barrier, but we still got lots of talks about twin-to-twin transfusion. After more worrying, we found at 16 weeks that our babies each have their own placentas.
Long story short, can things go wrong... yes. But I've come to accept that a lot of twin pregnancy is an inexact science and that I'm monitored closely enough that I shouldn't spend my time between appts. worrying. Try to relax and enjoy what you can of this. The second tri brings more smiles. Just hang in there.
We found out about our twins at 6 weeks exactly. One baby was measuring a day behind and its sack was on the small side. We could see both heartbeats but couldn't get measurements on either one. Our doctor also warned us about a vanishing twin. 3 weeks later both babies were measuring exactly the same and had strong heartbeats.
I know it's hard, but try not to worry. I think it's completely normal for twins to measure a few days different.
