I don't care as much whether you like it or not (but happy to hear opinions) but does it sound like a made up name? It doesn't at all to me (and I don't want it to) but my husband thinks it might.

I don't take one single minute for granted.
No, it is not a "made-up" name. Truitt is an English surname derived from a village called Trewhitt. I encourage you to visit The Internet Surname Database to learn more about this name -- I think it will help you will feel more confident about using it.
As others have said- I've seen it Truett but not the way you have it. But honestly I 've only seen it on one person: Truett Cathey- the foudner of Chick-fil-a. (btw he turned 90 on March 14)
I don't think it would be bad if you went with Truett

I went to school with a guy whose last name was Truitt (spelled that way exactly). So I know the name is not made up. It just falls into the surname as a name trend. I like it!
I don't like it. To me it's part of the last name as first name trend which is old and tired now IMHO.
Although, if this is an actual name from your or your husband's family tree, then I could see using it. I'm not a fan of picking random surnames just for the heck of it.
Also, if you must use this name I think Truett looks much better, Truitt looks too similar to fruit.
I've seen Truett, and that doesn't look made up. Your spelling looks made up though.
This. I have an uncle named Truett. (He's about 70-80 yrs. old).
It may be more of a southern name, (as evidenced by the facts that my uncle is from Mississippi, and Truett Cathy is from Georgia), which could explain why many PPs have not heard of it as a given name.
Re: does truitt (boy) sound made up?
Yes.
Burned by the Bear
Yes it looks made up. And ugly.

Kinda, though this is certainly not the first time this name has been asked about.
It makes me think of a trivet.
This exactly!
Truett looks like a surname turned first name. Truitt looks like fruit.
And, if DH isn't fully on board, I'd move on as well...

Maybe its just an older name.

... sorry a joke from my Gram. :P
Yes, therefore it seems made-up to me.

It doesn't sound made up to me, but it looks made up. If I heard it I would think it was spelled Truett like the surname.
