My daughter was born with cancer, she is in remission and has been for several months. She is required to go for follow up MRI's every 3 months for the first year, every 6 months the 2nd year and then once a year until she is 5. I am considering a job change. She is on my insurance. I am concerned that if I do my new insurance will not cover the MRI's because they may consider it treatment for a pre-existing condition. Now, I know the law has changed in regards to children and pre-existing conditions, I just don't fully understand the changes. Anyone have experience with this, not necesarily cancer, but switched insurance and had a child with major medical issues? I just do not want to take this job if it means I will have to pay for nearly 10 MRI's out of pocket or God forbid her cancer comes back.TIA
Re: RP: Insurance Question, Pre-existing conditions
I am not sure about the new rules and regs with what Obama did but I do know...
If you have been on group health care at least a year or more and change over (without any gaps) to another group plan that the pre-existing clause is dropped.
You will have to show proof to the new insurance company that you had the insurance (I forogt the name of the form but you get it once the old plan is canceled)
I would call your insurance carrier and ask them before you do anything though.
Ask the new company who they are insured with and call them as well.
It's called a Certificate of Credible Coverage. Usually the old policy will mail it within a month of the cancellation, but you might be able to call and get it faster.
