VBAC after mulitple C/S's

So I have had 3 c/s's and recently started missing the fact that I never had a vag birth. Do you think it would even be possible after 3 previous C/S's?

  • It has happened before, so it's possible in general. It really depends on your specifics, though. Have you talked to your OB about it?

  • I havent brought it up yet. I have just started to think about the idea but before I got my hopes up I wanted to know if it was even possible.

  • It's definitely possible.  Check out this study from last year finding that women who had a VBAC after 3+ cesareans had "similar rates of success and risk for maternal morbidity as those with one prior caesarean, and as those delivered by elective repeat caesarean."

However, you may run into a lot of difficulty finding a doctor/midwife or hospital that will do VBA3C.  There are women who have them so it's not impossible to find someone, but you might have to look a long time and it might depend a lot on where you live.  GL.

  • it's definitely possible, but you're going to need to get a lot of information on how your previous cs went.

as pp's said, it might be very hard to find a doctor/hospital that will allow you to have a vbac after that many cs. many of the doctors insurers will not provide malpractice coverage for it.

i had read a story previously about a woman who had a successful vbac after 5 cs... no reason not to give it a shot!

  • It is very possible. You just have to have a VBAmC doctor that will support you.
