startle reflex

LO is 2 months old on thursday. In the last 2 days his startle reflex has been a lot more excessive then usual when he is sleeping, it had slowed down to almost non existent for weeks and now its back. I thought it was supposed to slow down a lot at this point. Should I be concerned that he may have a blood sugar issue? He has his 2 month appt on monday with the pedi but wondering if I should bring him in sooner. Only other thing I can think of is he is in the shallow sleep cycle more then usual instead of the deep sleep that is causing this?

Re: startle reflex

  • Our son had a high startle reflex for a long time.  Thank goodness for swaddles!  At night we would also roll up blankets on each side of him to make him feel more secure.  During the day we made sure to be more gradual in putting him down on the changing table, floor, etc.  It wasn't anything wrong per se, but just a greater awareness on the part of DS.

  • My DS is 2 months and he's super sensitive to sounds. His startle reflex is still going strong.
