Is this normal/Should I call Dr.

Yesterday afternoon (around 1:30-2) I began having some pretty painful cramping in my lower abdomen, it made it hurt to walk and I would double over occasionally. This lasted until about 3 or 4pm and then everything was fine.  Well today around 12:30 the pain started again when I got up to go out and grab lunch.  Walking to my car was very painful and then driving I still had some pains for about 5 minutes.  Once I got back to my desk everything was fine until about 30 minutes ago when I got up to use the restroom, the pain was back and I was almost doubling over again.  Now that I've been sitting again it's going away.  I don't know if I should put a call in to my Dr. or just wait for my appointment on Thurs.   With Ryleigh I had all back labor so I'm not really positive what "normal" contractions would even feel like.

Re: Is this normal/Should I call Dr.

  • I would call the doctor, just to be safe.

I had some bad cramping that sounds similar to what you are experiecing, during my pregnancy with Jack.  You know what was causing it? A stupid UTI... apparently I had a terrible one and had no idea!  It wasn't anything like the few I had over the years before being pregnant (maybe TMI, but, you know, those make it hurt to pee and stuff, this one absolutely did not  :) Anyway, lots of water and antibiotics did the trick.

Hope you're feeling better very soon!

  • I would put a call in.

If nothing else they'll tell you it's normal and put your mind at ease until you get seen on Thu. Or they'll have you get checked out just to be safe. Either way, you'll feel better hearing it from them.

Oh, and just to be on the safe side, I'd probably try to rest as much as I could until I hear from them. Whatever it is, I noticed in your OP it seems like it gets better while you're sitting, so I'd try to sit / rest as much as possible.

  • It does sound look it could be a UTI.  I had one 2 weeks after having Lila that was very painful, possibly worse than labor.

  • this happened to me around 19 weeks and it turned out to be a really bad kidney infection. You are at higher risk of UTI and kidney infections while pregnant. it can also pretty much go from mild to bad in a matter of hours =(

  • I'd call. Could it be round ligament pain? I had a lot of hip/lower abdomen pain around 20-22 weeks, and it was always when I stood up and moved around.
