Hello Ladies!
With my 1st IVF, I really think that my dh was giving me the shots in the wrong place-more in the butt area than the hip. My nurse said that it was supposed to be in your hip area-I think he was going to low. I ended up with these "welts" that went away with a heating pad.
Now, I am back on the shots and he is giving them to me in the correct area. I never had any issues before....this time I bleed everytime and the area is so sore that it hurts when I walk. I cringe when shot time comes at night. I am using the heating pad after....when I feel my "hip area" I am so scared he is gonna hit the bone. ![]()
Any suggestions?? TIA!

Here is a diagram of where you're supposed to do it. He won't hit bone!
I'm sorry it's hurting...Try heat before and heat and massage after. I bleed everytime too, and usually a tiny bit of PIO leaks out.
DH used to do them, but he was gone a few days and I started doing them myself. FWIW, it hurts a lot less when I do it. Good luck!
When our nurse described the location, she told us to picture dividing your cheek into four equal parts. The shot belongs in the upper and outer quadrant. For me, it was above the crack and towards a nice chubby part. So hitting bone wasn't an issue.
Are you warming the oil up first? My husband used to "nest" for 10-15 minutes before the shot, which was just sitting on the vial so the liquid was as liquid as possible. You also might want to microwave a damp washcloth for a few seconds and massage the spot using that after the injection to help with welts.
Good luck!
It took 5 failed IUIs and a failed IVF, but our FET worked!

I'm so sorry your having a hard time. I myself have not had to get PIO shots but I'm a nurse and I give them all the time.
Make sure after you DH finds the correct area that he takes his finger and pushes down to make sure he feels a nice piece of meat. (Muscle)
Then If he makes a mark by pushing his nail into the spot he can then aim for that spot missing your hip bone .
As for the bleeding some people just bleed I'm not sure if you are using Lovenox in your protocol but that will make you bleed more.
Just make sure your DH holds pressure and massages the spot for a little while and that will prevent the bump and spot tyhe bleeding.
Good luck

Our nurse told DH to put his thumb on my hipbone and spread his fingers downward (kind of like you would do to put your hands in your back pockets). She told him anywhere his fingers or palms were (not his thumb!) was an ok place for the shot. Since I know he is feeling my hip bone, it keeps me from worrying about hitting it.
Mine have hurt a lot. They usually don't hurt when he does them, but afterward they sometimes hurt to the point that walking, sitting, etc. can be tough. I've found a heating pad helps sometimes. I've also tried rubbing the area right afterward to help the oil "spread." I don't know if it really does that or not, but it has helped some with the pain. It could be psychological but whatever works, right? :P
I hope the shots get better!

Ditto, also my IVF nurse said that on the day of the ER that they will draw circles with a sharpie to help dh with where to do the shot.
Me too. i am getting nauseaus just looking at the photo and thinking about how to do this. There is no way this is gonna work. Oh man.
BUT Kudos to you and DH for being so strong. Im sorry they are painful and i hope you find a trick that works for you. My RE ordered like a lidacain (sp) cream and i think its to numb the area. Maybe ask for that? GL hun!
