monitor question (one monitor, two cameras?)

Does anyone have a setup where they have one monitor with two cameras?  I'm just wondering how this works.  Can I just use one monitor/receiver, and have two cameras in separate rooms and it will pick up noise from both rooms?  I tried to look it up in the manual, and it explains how to switch the view on the receiver to switch between the cameras... but doesn't explain much else.  I just want to make sure that the cameras both would pick up sound and I would hear sounds from both rooms at same time then I guess?  Sorry if this is dumb question!

Mine doesn't show the rooms at the same time, but it will scan from 1 to the other. So it  stays on Maggie's room for 8 seconds then goes to O's room.

Ditto. We have the same system, thanks to Kristen's recommendation.
