Cramping

Okay ladies -

I don't want to be one of those first timers that calls the doc for every little thing, but what would you do? I barely slept last nigth becasue of normal pregnancy aches and pains, but all this morning I have had dull aches - like period cramps pretty regularly. Granted, these aren't very painful, but they aren't comfortable either. I have been drinking water and kinda chilling out at work, but they aren't really going away. Not very frequent either. Should I call my OB just to be safe or wait and see if they become more regualr and/or frequent?

Re: Cramping

  • Cramping is totally normal, but if it seems timeable or if you're worried, go ahead and cal the doc. It never hurts. :)

  • I have been cramping horribly the past few days. They have been more continuous though with some back pain but not necessarily timeable though. I've been given the go-ahead to let labor progress naturally after 35 weeks so I haven't bothered the doc. So far nothing has come of it... If your dr. would still stop labor at this point (didn't notice how far along you were) I might give them a call just for peace of mine. When I was cramping badly earlier on, they wanted me to come in for some monitoring.

I was up most of the night as well with cramps. I would call your doctor if they get timeable but it doesn't hurt to call as well.

  • It definitely never hurts to call to see what your OB says. But when I was having them the other night and called, they said as long as they aren't more frequent than every 10 minutes and I wasn't having any abnormal discharge or bleeding and baby was still moving around well then to just hang out and try to stay really hydrated.

So definitely keep drinking your water and take it easy, but don't feel crazy if you need to call, that's what they are there for!!

  • yep, definitely never hurts to call- they are probably normal :) I have been cramping for the past week- I think it is just LO trying to push down, though
  • This is what my midwife told me-

If you are cramping BEFORE 36 weeks, then DEFINATELY call the Doc and get checked.  If you are cramping AFTER 36 weeks, let the cramps progress naturally.  Her reason was that cramping before 36 weeks could lead to premature labor and could be serious.

This will depend on when your dr. will or will not stop labor. Mine won't after 35 weeks. Some are 35 and some are 36.
