2nd interview question.

I had an interview last week for what seems like my dream job at a government agency. I was interviewed by the HR Director. (I would be her assistant). She told me that she was interviewing 5 people total and that she may have me come back to meet the Executive Director.

Well, I get the call Friday to schedule a time to come in and interview with her and the Executive Director. I was just wondering what everyone's thoughts were on two issues:

1- Would you expect this to be an actual interview? Considering she already asked me a lot of questions, it would be kind of odd for her to ask them again with the director present. I'm thinking/hoping it will be more of a "meeting".

2- How many people do you think is the norm to carry on to this point in the interview process?

I know it's impossible to know anything for sure, I'm just curious what you guys think. Thanks. :)

Re: 2nd interview question.

  • I had a 4 part interview. I went in 4 different times for interviews alone. I would treat it as an interview. I spoke with 3 different people during this process. I hope that helps some.

  • I am curious to see responses on this because I am in the same boat. I have a 2 hour second interview next week and I really don't know what we are going to discuss that whole time...

I'm thinking/hoping it will be more of a "meeting".  This is probably more of a "personality fit" check, but be prepared for more/different questions from the HR Director and the Exec Director may have some as well.

2- How many people do you think is the norm to carry on to this point in the interview process?  It's probably safe to say this is it in terms of people you'll need to meet - the hiring manager (HR Director) may just require/desire the Exec Director's input.

    Good luck!

  • 1. I would assume it's an interview.  The executive director probably has their own set of interview questions they want to ask you (some might be repeat questions).

    2. I would say probably 3 from my interview experience.

  • I work in Recruiting and this is absolutely an interview.  In my firm we typically have two phone interviews and one face to face interview where you meet with multiple people.  Sometimes we have more than one face to face interview depending on who got to meet the candidate during their first, if they want to ask more questions, if the want to consider them for another role, etc.  You can expect to get asked some of the same questions that you were already asked by others and new questions.  I would prepare for this just as you would for any other interview.

I am currently interviewing for a new position and I had a phone interview with the manager that this role would be reporting too and I have an in person interview with the same man on Wednesday along with some additional members of the team.

I don't think that's always the case. This isn't for a large company- it's a smaller government agency. While I understand what you're saying, you can't necessarily say that that the process is always going to unfold that way. Sometimes it's just a formality to meet the director/president of the company, etc. I'll obviously go into it expecting an interview...but I doubt it will be.
