What are your opinions on the name Axel?

It looks like you are asking for opinions on the name Axel, but maybe you just want mn suggestions.  I'll give both: 

My opinion is: Axel is not horrible, but it does feel like it is trying too hard.

Middle names, it depends on your last name, but I think one syllable sounds good:

Axel Luke

Axel Charles

Axel James

NMS - sounds too Guns n' Roses. Side note, I know someone who named their kid Halen because they were huge Van Halen fans. But that's actually kinda cute and not quite as obvious, I think.

If I heard this name on a child, I would assume that his parents were wannabe rock stars. In the sad, pathetic, have-a-drumset-in-your-garage-that-only-got-used-once kind of way. Not good.

My first impression was car-guy dad as well. Not really a fan of the name Axel, personally. If you are set on it, I would use a classic mn like David, Henry, Christopher-along those lines.
