Did anyone have CMV while pregnant? Could you tell me your experience? Apollo has profound hearing loss (confirmed Friday) and I'm worried this is what caused it.

    Ella has "profound" hearing loss. The NICU said it could be a number of things that caused it. But they also said that if could just be fluid in her ears that caused it and they will do follow up at 6 months.

    I am so sorry for Apollo's hearing loss. I'm sure it's been hard on you. Why do you think it was CMV?

    I worked with a client who was deaf because her mom had CMV when pregnant. Staff who were pregnant either didn't work with her or were tested to see if they already had been exposed so they couldn't catch it from the client. This is just something to keep in mind in case family or friends become pg.

    I worked with deaf children and teens for many years. Please let me know if you ever have any questions. Maybe you could post this on the special needs board too. I almost adopted a special needs child and they were incredibly kind and helpful. (((hugs))))

    That would make sense (the fluid in her ears). I'll pray that it will be healed for her at the six month mark!

    Honestly, I do not know why CMV is on the table (how horrible does that sound?). My friend who is a doctor told me about it and my doctor talked to me about it when I called him; however, I don't understand why this is a possiblity! I did have mono type symptoms around 30 weeks, but I was never tested for CMV. If my doctor thought/thinks this was a possiblity, why did he not test me for it?! I am just very frustrated and confused right now, and am just looking for some answers because my asshat of a doctor doesn't give me any. Let's hope I can find a new one soon--but by then A. will still be deaf!lajsdflaksdj! (vent over. I apologize).

    Thank you for the kinds words--also, thanks for telling me about staying away from thsoe who are pregnant. My good friend is, but if CMV is/was a possiblity for me, I definitely will stay away.
