Diaper Genie question

Is the Diaper Genie a must-have or a waste of money?  My DH and I have been debating this for a while now.  Any opinions? Thanks in advance.

Re: Diaper Genie question

  • I had to have it... It is a must for me and they work really well...

  • Some people love them, I hated it. I think it's gross to store poopy diapers in the LOs bedroom and just as easy to toss them right into the trash cans outside. Our cans are right off the side of our front porch though. The other thing that I thought was gross was the stank that meets you when you empty the bag. Ew!

  • i don't think it's an absolute must but it really is wonderful to have. as long as you take out the diapers everytime you have a messy one, you'll be fine without it. but if you don't want to do that, then i totally recommend the diaper genie or something similar (we have the diaper champ). it does make it more convenient.

  • We got one.  I've heard that a good garbage can with a lid works just as well.  However, we live in a tiny apt and I don't want to be running out to the dumpster every time there's a dirty diaper.  I figure the diaper genie will be best for us to keep the smell down.

  • We are going to get one. Our tiny apartment is the furthest away from the dumpster and we live on the second floor so we don't have a trash can outside. We just take each bag down to the dumpster when it gets full. I like the idea of being able to just take them down when it gets full.

  • It was a must for us!  We've run out of refills and thrown a few into the trash, but then our trash can REAKS in a matter of hours!  Definitely worth it in my opinion!

  • It's a must for us- our garbage is picked up bi-weekly and the thought of having stinky diapers in the garage for two weeks during the summer makes me dry heave!

  • We like ours.  The only thing I don't like is how expensive the refills are.
  • We bought the diaper champ. It's stored on the back landing that's separated from the rest of the house by a door. It's also where the litter box is and consequently, a plug in air freshener. LoL.
  • This was a must have on my list... You don't have to get the elite... the reg diaper genie 2 is only like $25.... and my mom who did daycare for 14 years swears by it :o)

  • We decided it was a must-have for our house. Not for smell reasons or anything like that, but we have a beagle who likes to eat his own poop and any other poop he can find in the yard, I do NOT want to tempt him with diapers filled with baby poop. He'd think it was Christmas and I'd cry. We're working on training him out of the habit (especially as it gets warmer) but he's been a slow learner and I'm not taking the chances.

  • Our trash is picked up once a week, so I really wanted one (and got one at the shower). My sister had the original, and I'm glad to see you can use the 2 with just one hand. I always struggled with holding a baby and twisting the genie.

The refills are pretty cheap on Amazon, and you can do the subscribe and save just like with diapers. I got a 3-pack for $4 with a coupon, and free shipping.
