Hi everyone. I wanted to introduce myself. I'm 32 and DH is 36. We got married in Feb 2009 and started TTC right away. Unfortunately, no success yet. We've done testing and have been dx with unexplained IF.
We started thinking about IVF when we hit the two year mark of trying. Unexplained IF is such a frustrating dx as we're not sure if we should keep trying naturally or if IVF is a good option or if we were to do IVF if it would be successful. We don't have any infertility benefits and are OOP for all treatments and medications. We were fortunate to find an IVF study in our area that we qualified for that cut the cost of IVF to $4500 plus meds and we had our IVF consult with the nurse last week. She said we could start as early as next cycle! It all happened so fast, from making the decision to look into IVF, to finding this study, to being told we can start next cycle. We're excited and nervous.
I'm so thankful for this board. You are all so knowledgeable and a great support. So I wanted to say hi and thanks and I hope that we all have a short stay on this board. And also to recommend a book I recently picked up for DH. I saw it on the Today Show. It's called What He Can Expect When she's Not Expecting. It's written from a man's perspective and is funny. It's the first IF book I've seen written for a man.
Re: Hello. And a book rec
Hello and welcome to the board. Thanks for the book recommendation-
Unexplained is very frustrating as is being OOP- but that is amazing you were able to find a study. How did you find one for unexplained? I'd looked for studies, but couldn't find one that unexplained people qualify for.
Good luck with your cycle.
We are also unexplained and OOP -- but we have decided to forgo IVF and move onward with adoption.
Two C/P and Lots of Tests
Me = LPD + cancer survivor, DH = low count and morphology
IUIs #1-5, January 2011 - June 2011 = BFN
IVF #1 in July/August 2011 = BFP!!!!!
"Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear."
Thanks for the welcome! In this study they're freezing half the eggs retrieved immediately and then fertilizing them using ICSI. They want to see if fertilization rates are lower if the eggs are frozen first.
Good luck with your adoption plans.
