I really like the name Kate. However, it almost sounds like it is a nickname and not a proper name. Beside Katherine, what would be a "proper name" to give the nickname of Kate
If the house ain't burned down and the baby's fed it was a successful day.

Or just use Kate. I think it stands by itself just fine, and sounds rather dignified. I always try to think whether I could picture it on a resume- Katie, no, but Kate, yes.

However, I have a friend who named their child "Kate" as their given name.
My girlfriends name is Katrina and we call her Kate/Katie. I always thought Katrina was such a pretty name (and she is gorgeous too).
