Thanks for all the input! I think I have decided to keep DS in his seat, harnessed (it becomes a belt positioned high back booster) and get a 3 in 1 for DD. We already have no back boosters for down the road for DS, so hopefully the 3 in 1 would be the last carseat we'd need to buy. So I'm really liking the Graco Nautilus, but realllllly not liking the price. Recommend yours?

Re: f/u to carseat decisions to make
The Graco Nautilus is not a rear-facing seat. Forward facing only. The 3 in 1 part is harness, high back and then backless booster. GHM also said that it does not make a good booster for most kids.

Love our Nautilus seats. We have 2 for our almost 6 yo and 3 yo. The price was higher than I wanted to pay, but I think we will get our monies worth.

The Nautilus is not rear-facing and extended rear-facing is recommended now. I would never purchase an Eddie Bauer or Alpha Omega seat.
If you have to have a 3-N-1, then I would go with the Evenflo Symphony. It does rear-face.
We have 2 Symphonies in my mom's car. I am not a fan at the upper weight limit. DS hit 40 lbs and outgrew the harness and still isn't reliable enough to sit in a belted booster. It's ok for DD, but she'll probably outgrow it early, too.

Do you have the older versions then?
