Multiples

Joining you, 3u2 here we come...

I'm in a little bit of shock, but I'm glad to see others I can related to on this board.  I have a 15 month old DS and found out today that I am pregnant with twins.  I am scared out of my mind, as two months ago we were contemplating only having a single child...and bam...three!

Anyways, just here to wave hello and introduce myself.  I'm sure I'll have a million questions.  For now, I have one to get me started.

What advice can you give me about twin pregnancy?  My last pregnancy I gained too much weight, didn't eat the healthiest, and kind of just went with the flow.  I know I need to act differently this time around to give myself and the babies the best chance to make it to term.

  • Congrats and welcome!  3u2 is an adventure!  You may want to pick up Dr. Luke's book, what to expect when expecting twins, trips, etc (or something like that)

Thanks I will certainly do that.  Any other book/site recommendations are totally welcome.  No reason to reinvent the wheel, right?

  • Hi and welcome!! We're in the reverse...I have 16 mo. old twins and I'm almost 3 mo. along with #3! As other poster suggested, get a copy of Dr. Luke's book. It's the only one I referred to during my multiples pg.

Check out the MoM club in your area. I'm in TX too and the one in my area has been a great resource--I only joined after the twins' arrival but wished I would have when pg with the girls b/c they offer so many helpful things to help prepare you for LOs arrival! And it's awesome for getting all the extra items you'll need, gently used or new & never used, and for great prices!!

GL and glad you're joining us!! Congrats!!

  • Congrats!!! I have an 11yr old DS and expecting Identical Twin Boys in June. Eat right, get rest, don't overdo or stress and get Dr Luke's book. I gained 60lbs with my 1st and eat well but I have only gained 19lbs so far with the twins and they are looking good. I agree with finding a MoM group in your area, we have a great group here and its nice to talk with other MoMs and MoMs-to-be and we have our big sale next month. This message board and website is great too! I also like babycenter.com too.

Best of luck and keep us posted!

  • Congrats and welcome!  My older DD was 13 months old when I found out we were having twins!  Its definitely an adventure but I love all my girls and would never trade all the chaos for anything!

Like you, I gained a lot of weight (60lbs) with my first pregnancy, but with the twins I ate much healthier and only gained 30lbs, and then lost 45lbs so I actually weighed less than when I got pg.  However, I have since gained all that back...lol I made it to my scheduled c/s at 38 weeks 1 day and even worked until 36 weeks!

The hardest part of the pregnancy was not being able to chase after my older DD, give her baths, and just play with her like I did before.   But, now I am trying to make up for it by playing with her as much as I can.

     Good luck!

  • I am right there with ya! We just found out its twin 2 days ago!

  • Congrats again!  I am about to join the 3u2 group, but in reverse.  And like you my older LOs will be pretty close to 2 when baby comes.  I think that is a good thing!  When I found out I was pg when girls were 15mos I could not imagine adding a baby.  LOs are much more independent now.

I agree with others to get Dr. Luke's book.  Also to join (or at least research) your local MoM group.  I wish I'd been able to participate during pg, as my club has a great Big Sister program, and offers so much support to the pg MoMs.

Find out if your existing OB is really equiped to handle twin pg complications.  How do they treat twin mommies?  Or, find out if he/she is happy to work with a MFM/Peri if/when needed.
