so pissed - just found out he didnt' properly submit the flexible spending daycare reimbursement paperwork for this year.  He didn't save or submit right or something like that.  So...that's $5k that SHOULD be taken out pre-tax that now is not.  Not to mention, his employer chips in $1k ordinarily, so really only $4k pretax comes out of our pocket and $1k out of theirs (making it obviously even better for us).  But for 2011...nothing :-(

That would peeve me.  Throwing money down the drain, but if there is nothing to be done, I would rage for a minute and then move on.  Guy probably feels awful about it too. I hate that stuff.  I feel like they make it so hard to do sometimes, almost like rebates on things, designed to have them not collected.

I get why you are annoyed.  However, now you can use your childcare expenses as a tax credit at the end of the year.  I believe the FSA's are slightly favorable towards the tax benefit, but at least you won't get nothing out of all of this.

I think we can submit flex spending until mid-March or April where I work.  Is it something you can fix/file correctly yet?

you can submit for reimb for last year's expenses up until March, but not re-signup for calendar year 2011.  it's a done deal, unfortunately :-(
