2nd Trimester

Am I the only person with this? (TMI)

A couple weeks before finding out I was pregnant, soon after I would have become pregnant, I developed a strange little rash-type thing under my pantyline on the left side of my business. It was just one little spot, but it was red and itchy. I even showed it to DH at the time and he thought maybe I had accidentally gotten urine there and developed irritation. At the time I accepted this as a possibility, but in hindsight I'm 31 and I've gotten pretty good at wiping myself over the years, and have never experienced this before.

Basically, the symptom has continued into my 16th week (now) on and off. Same spot. It doesn't seem to have spread or gotten worse in any way.

For awhile I thought it was my raised body temp creating a heat rash, but then why just the one side?

And then I thought maybe it was the urine thing and my skin was reacting to the progesterone in my pee.

I did speak about it with a nurse and mentioned that I was using Vagisil, even though I don't seem to have any itching on the inside, like with a normal yeast infection. The Vagisil seemed to help somewhat. The nurse seemed to think it was simple irritation and suggested I go to bed without underwear and blow dry the area after showers to cut back on moisture.

So I'm at a loss. I have looked up pregnancy rashes and have not seen anything like this.

Also, I just have to say that I am generally itchy that whole area. Not with a rash everywhere, but just itchy. I wonder if it is increased hair growth. There just seems to be a lot of "rustling" down there.

I don't think it's serious but if anyone has suggestions I would appreciate it. I feel pretty unladylike scratching away at my nether regions while DH and I lay in bed.

Sorry so long!

Thanks.

  • Maybe go see a dermatologist. They can probably identify it better than your OB. GL!

  • your skin is real sensitive in general while pregnant, so things that may never have bothered you before show up now.

for example, my wedding rings irritated my finger during one pregnancy. it made the skin dry and itchy... never happened again during my other pregnancies

this pregnancy i have itchy red dry spots on the back of my arm where the back of the shoulder meets the armpit. not a spot where deodorant would be but just right on the back of my arm... no idea why... and it won't go away

i agree with pp, check with a derm, maybe they can prescribe you something that will give you some relief.

  • Are you still shaving your lady bits? I get this type of rash occasionally when I've got what is essentially razor burn. If you are, are you using anything to assist like a shave gel or something? If so, try using just soap instead. If it persists, I would see about switching your underpants to the boy type ones that they make for ladies, the ones where you wouldn't have them running alongside the inner part of your hips but rather the upper part of your thighs.

  • Thank you for these suggestions ladies.

I have tried both shaving and not shaving. I'm sort of wanting to get a Brazilian wax and just get rid of all the hair altogether, although admittedly that may not actually be beneficial to my skin.

I think I may just be oversensitive right now, as one poster said. I tend to have pretty sensitive skin to begin with. Maybe I'll try a different detergent and stop using bleach or get some organic cotton underwear if I can afford it.

    Thanks again!

  • I have the same thing on my elbows and sholders...there are two things that work the best.  I use a cordizone cream that clears it up in one night, but for the down there rash, try a diaper cream.  Zinco Flax works great.  Good luck
  • I had a rash on my left upper leg right below my underwear line when I first got pregnant. It was VERY itchy for a week or 2. I asked the doctor and he thought it was fungal and said to try gold bond for a week and if that didn't work then I could fill a prescription. The gold bond made the itching go away and now it's gone (it took awhile for the entire red mark to go away though) Good Luck!

  • You are not alone!  I had the same situation going on down there during the first trimester!  It has gone away for the most part, I think it was from my pantyliners, just being over sensitive...I also get that way if I use cheap toliet paper.  It eventually got better, make sure you are not using any scent pads, or toliet paper that is rough, it just makes it worse...

  • I had a similar rash on the left side as well and it itched!!  Went away after a week or so but I would call the doctor just to be safe.
