IVF Med Side Effects

I have not done any IUI's medicated or not so I'm kind of going into this whole IVF thing blind.  I'm hoping someone can shed some insight so I can warn my staff! hahaha

I'll be taking Menopur (300 per injection) and Follistim (150).  Then I'm going to be using Ganirelix for suppression.  PIO (in the AM) and Prometrium (PM) as well as estrogen patches after ET.  I know the prometrium and PIO shouldn't have an y s/e (except pain from the injection site), but what about the rest?

I have only used it for an IUI and at a lesser dose, but I didn't feel any side effects from Menopur, other than some burning during and right after at the injection site.

I felt tired, hungry and a little more emotional than normal.  When I did PIO shots I had pregnancy symptoms...cramping, sore chest, tired, hungry

This.  With stims I also had some headaches and brain fog (but not as bad as with Lupron).  With PIO I was also constipated.

That being said, everyone is a bit different!

Thanks, Ladies!!  Sounds like it shouldn't be too bad. 

STL one of my other friends also warned me about constipation with PIO.

I've only done IUI, but I did use Follistim and Menopur.  When you inject the Menopur, do it slowly because it burns a little.  You get used to it after a few times.  As for s/e, mostly pg symptoms (sore breasts, cravings, hungrier, moodier).  I did however have the opposite of constipation so I can't help you in that department.  Good luck!

I was on lupron, menopur, follistim and PIO.  I didn't really have any s/e except for feeling my ovaries during stims -- not really pain, just really aware of them. Oh, and I was very over-emotional about everything!

Meds seem to effect everyone differently.. that being sad.. I notice a lot of side effects.

Headaches, bloating, overall uncomfortableness, forgetfulness, insomnia, moodiness, way more emotional than normal.  The PIO made me hungry and it also made the hair grow on my face a bit more than normal.. fun.. right?

Hopefully your side effects will be few!! Good luck to you, and your staff!!!

Meds do affect everyone differently.  I took Lupron, Menopur, Follistim, Ganirelix, prometrium, and PIO (seseme) in the past and had no side effecs at all.  The Lupron did over -suppress me though.  I also took repronex and had the worst allergic reaction ever.

Other than physically feeling "full" in my ovary area, the last few days I was kind emotional and had crazy cravings!! I use to hate bleu cheese, and now I cannot get enough of it! I also had (and 4 days post ER still have) lower back tenderness so I sleep with a pillow under my knees

I did also have a touch of insomnia, and it burned while injecting so I went super slow. I only bruised ONCE in all the cycles too!

I used all the same meds, except for prometrium and estrogen patches. I didn't really notice any mood swings or major s/e. Around day 8 I started to feel the bloat, but nothing too terrible.

The menopur sucks a little because it has a sting to it. I timed it though, it only lasts about 2 secs though. If you can get through those 2 secs you'll be golden! GL!

I completely agree with everything you said.  I remember your post the other day about the bleu cheese.  I am still craving cheese.  I just told my husband, I wish I could just fry up some cheese and dip it in sauce and eat it.  Mozzarella sticks for dinner it is!!

I wanted to add that I forgot that progesterone supps gave me MAJOR constipation.  It was SO awful.  =(   TMI ahead: I became afraid to go #2 at home for fear of clogging our toilet, which would happen when did.  So I'd go to the gym or somewhere with an industrial strength flush.

Did I really just share that?  lol
