Hubby and I both love the name Gabriel and the NN Gabe...but we are both concerned about teasing when he gets older.

What is your experience/thoughts on this? Would the name Gabriel/Gabe get teased by other kids?

Love Gabriel and Gabe as a nn.  I knew a guy in high school with this name and I don't remember any teasing...he was one of the most popular guys in school.

I don't think you need to worry about some names being more prone to teasing because kids will be kids and they'll get teased about something at some point.  If it's not the name it'll be something else. And that's not the end of the world, ya know?

I like the name A LOT!

And I knew a guy who hated his first name and so went by his middle, which was Gabriel. He never encountered teasing. But, he also didn't go by Gabe, ever.

I don't get what the teasing would be ... maybe I'm not very creative. But, also, I think if you're creative enough almost any name could get teased. It's a short phase, anyway, the name teasing, and not likely to cause any long-term damage.

 You both love it? Go for it!

I went to school 1-12 grades with a Gabe and don't recall him being teased any more than any other kid is.

All kids will be teased. I don't think Gabriel/Gabe lends itself to teasing any more than any other name.

It's currently ranked #22 on SSA, so it's a common name. I don't think there will be teasing with this name. Maybe if he had a Gabrielle in his class then kids might call him that. I doubt it lol

My nephew's name is Gabriel and we call him Gabe a lot, I don't think he has ever been teased.

I know a Gabriel that goes by Gabe only and he has had no problems all of his 31 years.
