ok, with the findings of a penis on the next child, I have a TON of girl clothes. lots I will give to friends, sell at the consignment shop, and just get rid of.
but there are some pieces that are super special. the kind where you just can't get rid of them.
did you keep some? did you do something with them?
what did you do?
I have some clothes that I wore as a child that my mom kept, but I'm just not sure if that's just too crazy these days to keep some of that stuff.
Re: Help, clothes they will never wear again, but can't bear to get rid of.
We won't have to deal with that for a little longer since we have another of the same gender on the way, but I'd say it's not unreasonable to keep a small bin/tub of special items.
Actually, I have 2 of Natalie's special/pretty dresses hanging on pretty hangers on the wall in her room. One is the dress she wore home from the hospital (and on her 1st Easter, and this baby girl will wear it home from the hospital too), and one is a dress that DH brought back for her from India when she was about 6 months old. Otherwise, I feel like we don't have a ton of super special stuff, but I'm sure I'll come across some things I just can't part with.
I am not sentimental about the boys clothes at all. I have no clothes from when I was a baby and am none the worse for it. I bought a small canvas box with a zipper lid for a few special things like their coming home outfits and some personalized things. We also have a couple outfits from friends overseas that we'll hang on to. I bought 1 box and basically said "when it's full, it's full."
I've been sick in bed and watching back to back episodes of Hoarders. That'll make you throw away anything!
I think I have their going-home outfits and their baby dedication outfits in a box at the top of the closet. I will probably put them in a rubbermaid or something.
The rest of the 5 tubs are going away. Anywhere. Just take them!

Be careful about sealing things up and putting them in the attic. I now keep newborn - 9 month clothes in closets due to spit up stains reappearing after attic storage in plastic bins. Luckily lots of Oxy got most of those out. Also, elastic can wear out more easily over the years. Anything super special does better at room temp and allowed to breathe.
I did hang on to my favorite preemie onesie. I keep it in her top dresser drawer and pull it out every now and then. It always makes me smile - I can't believe she was ever that small!
