So I know that an IUD has to be put in during a period (or thats what I had heard makes it easier at least). Can they do this during the post-partum bleeding or do you have to wait for your first true cycle? What if you are breasfeeding and your cycle doesn't come for months, do you have to go on the pill until then? Thanks!

Re: Mirena post c-section
I had the Mirena put in at my 6 week checkup and I had just stopped bleeding a couple days before. They never mentioned anything to me about putting it in during a period. While I was still in the hospital recovering from the c section, they gave me the DepoShot just incase we had sex before the 6 weeks checkup to make sure I'd be covered. I was pumping when they gave me the Depo.
I'm pretty sure they'd want your uterus to be completely healed before they put a foreign body in it. I had mine done during a period when the boys were about 10 months old.
You'd definitely want to have backup contraception until you have it placed. But triplets are pretty good contraception. :P

Honestly, I was so wreckless with getting my IUD. I found out how much it costs and scrambled to get it done before the end of the year so I wouldn't have to pay 2011's deductible. I answered "yes" to whatever they asked.
I never had a cycle. I BF for 5.5 months and was on non-hormone BC pills from 6w pp on. When I elected to stop BF, I trusted Ortho Tri-cyclin more, and I went back on that for 3 weeks. It was giving me crazy head aches, so I called about getting an IUD. I believe they asked if I'd cycled, but I knew I for sure I wasn't pg.
hahahaha... Thanks for making me laugh!!
We're still doing the debate of whether we're "done" or not... I think the anatomy scan TODAY will help a lot with that, and if we are "done" I'll start talking to the doc about getting tubes tied while I'm cut open anyways rather than having the hubby do it (he's such a wimp, like most men, and I can't take care of infants and him too! haha). But we'll see what happens during the pregnancy before that decision is made!

I agree with PP that you'll probably want your uterus to fully heal first. I had mine done when my girls were about 6 months old, to get it in the same benefit year my twins were born so I wouldn't have to pay out of pocket (we met our deductible before they were even born!) But I could have defiantly had it done before then.
They want you to get it inserted within 7 days of starting your period. The reason for this is that the lining of your uterus is shedding and at it's thinnest, so it's easier get a strong insertion. I didn't BF so I'm not sure how that will affect things. I'd talk to your OB about it at your next visit to see what he/she has to say about it.
