Are these pretty much the same? Seems like a silly question. DD is wearing 9 month now (yes, at almost 14 months lol) so I expect her to be wearing 12 when it warms up. But some brands are just 6-12 or 12-18. Those brands I would need 12-18, right? That just seems so big since she is only in 9 now.

Re: 12 month clothes vs 12-18 month
DD is in 9-12 month clothes or 6-12 months now and the pants are getting too short for her. I've been buying 12-18 month stuff for warmer weather and they are huge on her now. So I'm not sure. I think if I buy 6-12 they will be too small by the time it warms up.
I guess none of that was much help, but I'm kind of in the same positon as you. Sorry!

DS is also in 6-9/9 month clothes, but 12 month is starting to fit him. 12 month pants are big on him (long and in the waist) but he needs a 12 month t-shirt to fit over his head, lol.
Clothing that ran 6-12 months never really fit DS correctly.
I bought a few warm weather things in 9-12 but I'm mostly buying 12-18...it should fit him in the next 2 or 3 months.
Every company seems to be different so I go by the weight and height listed on the tag. Anything from Carters listed as 12 months is usually the general 9-12 that other companies sell. My DD is small she was 16 pounds 6 ounces at 12 months. Right now she is wearing between 9 and 12 months and for summer I am just looking at the weight and guessing. With Old Navy she is currently wearing 6-12 and the waist is still a little big so I am thinking she will be in 6-12 for a while when it comes to shorts.
I hate the 6-12 months sizes, I pretty much avoid them because they never seem to fit right no matter what size she's in. DD just moved up to 9-12 month (just 12 month by Carter's sizing) about 3 weeks ago, so I've been buying that size in t-shirts for spring/early summer. I'm holding off on shorts since it won't be shorts weather here for at least 2 or 3 months yet, but I figure about now is when her growth should start to slow down and she'll wear clothes longer.
Our problem is that she is long and skinny - 75% for height and only 25% for weight. Her 6-9 month pants fit her waist, but are too short. Her 9-12 pants are the perfect length, but fall right off her skinny little butt. It's making me crazy!

This picture was taken about a week ago. She's wearing 12-18 month fleece pants, you can tell they are a little long still. We're in mostly 12 month clothing.
6-12 months = 12 months
12-18 months = 18 months
18-24 months = 24 months.
Maybe get her a few 6-12 month items to start off the warm months. That way, she'll have a few pieces that fit.
I bought a bunch of childrens place 12 month dirt cheap at the end of last summer, so we're pretty well stocked and I expect them to fit. It's more just cure things I come across. We don't shop at gymboree much, so I'm not too concerned about their things, but we do buy a lot of Old Navy. We also get a ton a second hand, which sometimes can be a little smaller than new due to shrinking.
My DD is 14 months and weighs 19 lbs. She is at the 50%tile for height. Her 12 month pants are too short. We got some 18 months (Carters and Osh Kosh) and 12-18 months (Gymboree and Gap) and they are a little long. They dont fall down (however we use cloth diapers). When in sposies they do fall down. For short sleeves we are buying a little big and plan to wear them all summer. I generally look at the tag for sizing. We usually have to go bigger because of height. Good luck.
