DH and I are totally stuck on girl names. I love Vivienne (Vivi) and Josephine (Josie). He likes Riley. I used to like Riley, but the more I thought about it, it seems cute on a baby and on a girl, but I can't imagine an adult woman named Riley...it sounds too much like a nickname to me. He's not really into my name choices, although I think it's mostly because he has his heart set on Riley.
I put them into Nymbler but I'm not coming up with anything else I like. Do you guys have any suggestions? I guess Basically I like names that have a cute nickname but the long form sounds dignified and confident.
Re: Names like Josephine, Vivienne, etc.
First of all, LOVE your name choices... hate Riley. It's too cutesy sounding.
Evangeline.
Elin.
Evelyn.
Violet.
Estelle.
Camila.
Gianna.
Lilliana.
Harper (trendier, maybe more his style?)
Johanna.
I'm totally biased, but Evangeline fits the bill.
And FWIW, I agree with you about Riley. I'm trying to think of a full name that could use the nn Riley, but I can't think of any. Maybe you can talk him into using Riley as a middle name, keeping it as a nn option ??
I tried to do this too, and didn't really come up with anything convincing other than maybe Marilyn, and even that's a stretch. I really loved Riley, but I try to imagine a 35 year old Riley and it doesn't sound right. Thanks!

Your taste in girl names sounds similar to mine. We had Liliana, Emmeline, and Camille on our list. A few others that may not be as close to that style were Carys, Grace, and Anne Marie.
(P.S. Since I love your taste, I would love to hear your boy names since we're stuck on those!!
haha)
Obviously, I like Vivian..... I agree, I'm not a fan of Riley.
Other names we considered: Evelyn (Evie), Natalia (Talia), Natasha (Tasha), Elinor (Elle), Viola, Katharina (Kate), Katherine (Kate), Elisabeth (Bess), Margaret (Margot, Greta or Gretchen).
I also loved Alice and Lora (and the only gender-neutral name I liked for a girl was Ellis, but my husband hates it.)
I agree Riley would be a good middle name.. I think it goes well with both Vivienne and Josephine
I love your naming style. How about Genevieve? That's my DD's name, nn Genna.
Riley is NMSAA. I have a boy Riley Josef & girl Riley Elizabeth in the family. Ugh.
