Re: Sidney?

  • I usually see it for a boy but it really can go for both. I like it for a girl though. It would be unique. :)

  • This is a rare name that I prefer more y's. I like it spelled Sydney. It isn't on my list but it isn't a bad name IMO.

  • I like it, but spelled Sydney. I have never heard this name on boy (other than the actor Sidney Poitier) & know a few girls/women named Sydney (ranging in age from 3 to 30).

  •  I personally love it, but I like the more unisex names for girls.  :)

  • Sydney is okay for a girl.  But it is not as pretty as Ava to me which would be a problem in my world.  Cause Ava is a very pretty name Sydney is just an okay name.

  • dislike.

it doesn't really roll off the tongue either - the "dn" is kind of awkward to pronounce.

  • Wow... I heard this board was harsh but I never imagined it this harsh.... I think Sidney is a beautiful name, and I have actually never met a boy with that name in the last 10 years I have worked with children.
  • I think it's okay, but I prefer the spelling Sydney.

OP asked for opinions and was given just that.

And Sydney is the traditional spelling for a girl.

  • I actually kind of like it. I think it would be a sweet name on the right person but not everyone could pull it off.
  • My little girl's name is Sydney (spelled with the 2 y's) and since it is unisex, we used Rose as a middle name to make it more feminine as a whole. We really like the name and it fits her sooooo well! Good Luck with your decision!!

  • I love it, but also prefer Sydney. For me, it's because Sidney is a town nearby, so I would avoid that spelling!

  • I like it, and I prefer it spelled Sidney.  I've known plenty of girls with the name, and I've never seen it with y's.
  • My grandfather's name was Sidney.  If we end up having all girls, our plan is to name the last one after him.
  • I love it cuz that's my daughters name :D
  • I think the kid/parents need the right personality to pull it off.

I'm not a fan personally, but it's my neice's name. Something my SIL would so totally pick and it fits my neice big time.

She's also called Sid a lot so take that into consideration if it bothers you.

It's normal, spelled right, pronounceable etc. Nothing wrong with it at all.

  • NMS, but it works.  I have a niece named Sidney and a friend of my mine just named her daughter Sydney.  I really dislike the nn "Sid" though.
  • Sidney or Sydney is a good name.
