Baby Names

Maisie/Maisey?

What do you think of this name?

Someone at my church just had a little girl and named her this(not sure of spelling), and i'm playing around on nameberry and "Maisie" is in the "Today's most popular names" section...

It's cute, but can you see it on an adult? I can't..

Re: Maisie/Maisey?

  • I know three people with dogs names Maisy, so that is what I think of when I hear the name

  • I like it, my mom worked for a woman named Maizey for years. She's probably in her 70's now & I never knew if Maizey was short for anything....that's what everybody called her. And she was a very affluent, successful business woman. Hope that helps!

  • I think it's cute, but agree with you on the whole thing of it not growing up with her.

I know two dogs with this name.  So to me it is a doggie name too.

  • it's not cute for a child or an adult.

  • I like the fact that it is a Scottish name but agree with pps that it is hard to picture an adult with the name. I prefer the spelling Maisie.

  • My friends daughter is named Maisie and it totally fits her.
  • I don't like it.  I wouldn't pick any name that doesn't sound good on an adult.

  • I love Maisie. I disagree it doesn't age well, but I guess everyone has their opinions :) I don't see any difference really in "age appropriateness" from Sadie, which often is called an "old lady" name, or even Molly, for that matter. Lots of dogs have those names too.

Maisie started as a nickname for Margaret but I think it works as a stand alone name as well. Just as Sadie and Molly have become accepted stand alone names, I hope this one does as well. It has more spunk and uniqueness to it! :)

Okay as a nn for Margaret or something like that.

  • Kinda reminds me of:

    1. The pepper spray us ladies carry around in our purses at night.

    2. Corn.

  • Too cutesy for me too. I can't imagine her as an adult.

  • Do you pronounce that Macy (like the store) or Maize (like maze-e) which was my grandmother's name?  I would love to name a future daughter after my grandmother who I was very close to but I'm not really a big fan of the name.  :(
